Black Girls Unite
Who Are We?
Black Girls Unite (BGU) is an organization founded by Black women which aims to provide a safe space and platform that promotes our diversity, interests, and self-love- as well as a place to talk about our concerns and issues. Our goal is to help womxn gain a voice for themselves and to become a support system for both communities that are at Michigan State and for those that are located off-campus
A Safe Space
BGU serves as a safe space for womxn of all sizes, skin tones, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexualities, religions, and identities on MSU's campus
Additionally, although BGU is an organization that was created to give a focus on the intersections and issues that apply to Black womxn, everyone is invited to join us. Since we aim to educate and love one another; if you are willing to be respectful of others, give acceptance, and contribute to our discussions, you can come to our meetings!
Resources
Black Girls Unite wants to create a support system in our community and to construct a network of opportunities and resources that are easily accessible to anyone who may need them. Listed below are links to a few wonderful resources that are mostly located within the Lansing/East Lansing area. If you know of any other foundations/organizations that should be added to this list, please message us or add it to the "resource" page in our forum!
MSU Safe Place
"MSU Safe Place is a program that addresses relationship violence and stalking. We are located on the campus of Michigan State University and serve students, faculty, staff, their spouses/partners and non-affiliated members in the Greater Lansing Area. We provide advocacy, emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, safety planning, information and referrals to survivors of violence and their minor children. All support services are free and confidential. Additionally, we work to increase awareness about relationship violence and stalking through community education, outreach efforts, expert witness training, professional trainings and consultation."
