The Beautiful Legacy of Toni Morrison

As you may have heard, earlier this week, we unfortunately lost writer, author, and visionary creative Toni Morrison. Ms. Morrison is known for accomplishing many amazing feats during her long and rich career, such as writing books (including “Beloved” and “The Bluest Eye”) that used vivid imagery and articulation to breath extraordinary life into her characters and settings, and for being awarded with honors such as the noble peace prize in literature and pulitzer prize for fiction. One of the attributes that made her works so impactful and timeless was their subject matter. Ms. Morrison's work was often based upon and made for Black people, and more specifically, took inspiration from the collective experiences and intersectionalities of Black women. She used her talent to represent us, advocate for us, and appreciate us. As a result of this, her pieces, over the decades, inspired multiple generations of women to tell their stories and to utilize writing as a tool for self exploration and expression. While she is no longer physically present with us on this earth, Toni Morrison's legacy and influence still lives on through the undeniable impacts that she made in the field of poetry and literature and through the memories of the people who she dedicated her life to writing for and about.
